This is an abridged English translation of an eight-volume book in Urdu, written by a direct descendant of the Khan of Kalat. The book records BalochistanÕs ancient history, the Islamic Empire, Mongol conquests, the advent of the British, and the post-Partition period. It attempts to generate a better understanding of the Baloch through historical retrospection, dispelling the anachronistic characterization of the land and its people.
A former Deputy Commissioner of Kalat and Vizier-e-Durbar of the State of Kalat, Mir Naseer Khan Ahmedzai (1919–2013), was a respected Baloch author and historian. Author of a number of books including The History of the Baloch People, he witnessed such seminal events as the merger of Kalat state with Pakistan, the formation of the Balochistan States Union, the formation of One Unit, and then the creation of Balochistan as a separate province. Mir Naseer Khan served as the Chairman of the Secondary and Intermediate Board of Education of Balochistan, Chairman of the Balochistan Textbook Board, and Professor of Balochi and Brahui languages at the University of Balochistan. He is a recipient of the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.
